Analysis of the application of magnetron sputtering in the semiconductor industry

Magnetron sputtering is a device that uses plasma sputtering technology under magnetic field control to deposit thin films. In the semiconductor industry, it is mainly used to prepare various functional films, which play a vital role in the manufacturing process of semiconductor devices.

1. Preparation of metal interconnects: In the manufacture of semiconductor chips, metal interconnects are used to connect components between transistors to realize the functions of circuits. Magnetron sputtering can deposit metal films such as copper and aluminum to form fine interconnects. By using it, uniform and highly adhesive metal films can be obtained, which is crucial to improving the reliability and performance of semiconductor devices.

2. Manufacture of gate electrodes: In the manufacturing process of transistors, gate electrodes are key components for controlling the flow of current. 3. Insulating layer and barrier layer: Magnetron sputtering is also used to deposit insulating layer and barrier layer in semiconductor manufacturing. Insulating layer such as silicon dioxide, silicon nitride and other thin films can effectively isolate interference between circuits and improve the stability of devices; while barrier layer is used to prevent the diffusion of metal atoms and maintain the performance of devices.

4. Anti-reflective coating in lithography process: In the lithography process, in order to improve the accuracy of lithography, an anti-reflective coating needs to be coated on the silicon wafer. High-quality anti-reflective films such as titanium nitride and chromium oxide can also be prepared. These films can reduce light interference and reflection during lithography and optimize the lithography effect.

5. Packaging technology: In the semiconductor packaging process, it can be used to deposit metal films as rewiring layers or as barrier layers to prevent the diffusion of metal atoms. This is crucial to improve the reliability of packaging and extend the service life of semiconductor devices.
